a sports bar with upscale eats? Yes, it does exist and it's got a wall of wine. -PJ Gach Vintage 61 is a new resto/sports bar/bistro is sliding into the old Kiwi Blue space in the Seaport District. Partners Jason Casano and Laurent Vasseur (KiwiCuba, Inatteso) have created a concept that could satisfy everyone in your dinner party.
The menu, overseen and created by Executive Chef Eric Lind (Inatesso, Flatbush Farm), is a blend of French-influenced American sports bar standards like hamburger, hot dogs and grilled chicken with dishes like Loup de Mer and Chicken or Pork Paillards and tuna tatare. Click on this link to view and download the menu Download Vintage 61 Menu
The decor combines the timeless rustic chic of a low-key French bistro and sports paraphanelia with a twist. Tables have carved in quotes from famous sports personalities, the diners have to guess who uttered the words. While there will be TVs, is there any sports bar that doesn't have one? These show sports trivia instead of watching spaghetti tossing live from Upper Genovia, on off major league/NFL/NBA games, you can play along with brain teasers instead. Who knows, this may encourage conversation between tables.
Vintage62 gets its name from two sources: One of the best Yankees seasons of all time and one of the best vintages of bourdeaux. Casano stated in a press release, "As a life long sports fan, and having grown up in the restaurant industry, the opening of Vintage61 is truly a dream come true. I’m thrilled to combine my love of sports with my love of the hospitality business. So bring your friends, your family, your date, your children and your grandparents. Honestly, Vintage61 is a place they can all enjoy themselves."
Vintage61 located at 233-235 Front Street, South Street Seaport. They're open from 4:30pm – 11:00pm Monday to Friday, Saturday and Sunday they will open at 10:30am for brunch until 11:00pm. Visit their site to learn more.

Chef Alvin Cailan (Eggslut) is manning the counter. via Instagram Yesterday's burger (top photo) was Baby You Can Chive My Car. Today it's the Don’t Four Cheddar ‘Bout Me burger. Sound so good!
The tropics comes to Brooklyn: Sugarcane Raw Bar & Grill. -Jordanna Stephens Recently Sugarcane Raw Bar & Grill opened their third US location in DUMBO. The Miami-based restaurant group has ChefTimon Balloo creating an incredible global menu for this waterfront Brooklyn resto.
On opening night, music by the Hudson Horn and DJs Mia Moretti and Chelsea Leyland kept the groove going on and on. The interior, designed by CentraRuddy, has a decidedly tropic feel…walk in and you feel like you’ve escaped cold New York City for warm Havana. Caramel colored leather seats, soft sand colored tile help to give you that warm, beachy (luxury beachy mind you) vide. Top it all off with an incredible view of the Manhattan Bridge.
Walking in, one is offered white or red wine, or a very tropical mojito. Decisions! Decisions! An easy way to gauge the cuisine was to sample light bites that will adorn Sugarcane’s menu. Tempting morsels included sushi, roasted corn, bacon wrapped dates, roasted Brussels sprouts done up with a balsamic glaze and more.
With a name that includes “Raw Bar & Grill,” there was a strong emphasis on fresh seafood that practically dripped briny breezes. While the raw bar is amaze, there are two other types of kitchens. Yes, Sugarcane Raw Bar & Grill has the aforementioned raw bar, but it also boasts an open fire grill and a traditional hot kitchen. Need something to warm you on a cold winter’s day? Try the Australian grilled lamb chops served with pomegranate an za’atar yogurt $2), or A5 kobe wagyu* pickled honshemeji & truffle ponzu $28/oz. (3oz. minimum), or beef short ribs Korean style $20. To view the entire menu, click here
Feeling decadent? They serve incredible lunch specials, like Le Classic double burger* two beef patties, American cheese, thousand island sauce, potato bun16, or the poke bowl tuna, wakame, cucumber, Japanese pickle, ginger garlic for $18 and fabulous brunches on the weekend.
Sugarcane Raw Bar & Grill will more than likely become not only a DUMBO staple, but a place all New Yorkers will want to visit. The resto makes finding the perfect lunch, date night, out with friends place easy….just visit Sugarcane Raw Bar & Grill. The resto is at the Empire Stores 55 Water Street, Brooklyn, NY 11201. Phone 718.473.9555. They’re open from 10 am to 11 pm.

Marine Park's got a brand new coffee shop--Marine Park Coffee. -PJ Gach Jhonn Thomassen, a Marine Park resident would commute to his Manhattan corporate gig every day. Craving rich ice cream in unique flavors? Head on over to LA's Milk pop-up store before it's gone! -PJ Gach
Los Angeles' cult favorite ice cream parlor has landed in New York City for a limited time. MILK has opened a delish pop-up store in Nolita. They're serving up ice cream, sorbet and the biggest ice cream sandwiches you'll ever see.
Speaking of ice cream sammies, they use macarons to make holding the ice cream easy. These sweet treats come in Cali Strawberry, Grasshopper (chocolate and peppermint), Thai Ice Tea, Mango Chili and more. Prefer a classic cone? Try a scoop of Red Velvet Cake, Green Tea Rose, or Fruity Pebbles. There's 13 flavors to choose from--good luck in picking just one! They also have sorbet which comes in three flavors. MILK creates their sorbet as they do their gelato; so the result is a rich, deeply textured, creamy sorbet. Oh, and they have Vegan offerings too!
One scoop is $4, two scoops or an ice cream sandwich is $6.
MILK pop-up is at 52 Kenmare, and will be serving up their cold treats until Sunday, June 25.
Gorgeous, tasty, orange Mimolette cheese, carvings from world renown sculptor Krai and more at the French Cheese Board. -PJ Gach Trust the French to make Halloween tres chic! The French Cheese Board (41 Spring Street in Soho), is hosting a Mimolette cheese pop up now through Monday, October 31. This taste testing spectacular is brought to you in part by the Cheeses of Europe.
On display, to taste and to buy are Mimolette cheeses from Isigny Ste Mereand President. What is Mimolette cheese? It's a firm-to-hard cheese that is slightly nutty in flavor. Both the French and the Dutch lay claim to creating it. In the 1600s, it was decreed that Mimolette would have an orange appearance so that it could be easily distinguished from Dutch Gouda. The rounds are aged in caves, similar to aging wine. Here's a piece of trivia; it was General Charles de Gaulle's favorite cheese.
Aged Mimolette is sold at 3 months, 12 months and 18 months. The older the cheese, the deeper the flavor. Here's a piece of trivia; it was General Charles de Gaulle's favorite cheese.
Pop on in to the French Cheese Board, try some for yourself, and watch Thai-born cheese sculptor Krai create incredible works of art utilizing Mimolette cheese. Below is one of his sculptures.
Here he is working on a Mimolette Jack O'Lantern.
Krai was born in a tiny village in Thailand. He moved to the country's capitol, Bangkok and became fascinated with the fact that the royal family only ate fruit that was intricately carved. That spark started his international career as a food sculptor. Watching him create a three-dimensional sculpture, which you can when you visit the French Cheese Board is mesmerizing. Now back to the cheese; each aged cheese has a different personality, and a slightly different flavor.
Little kids get customizable Scary Face Pancakes for free on Halloween at IHOP. -PJ Gach Just in time for Halloween, IHOP is offering free Scary Face pancakes to children aged 12 and under free on Halloween from 7-10 pm. Kids can customize their pancakes by creating faces and more with the toppings; the above photo gives you just a hint of what you can do to a pancake. The basic Scary Face Pancake is a buttermilk pancake accompanied by whipped topping, candy corn, mini Oreos, and a strawberry nose.
As if you needed another excuse to visit Dream Midtown’s The Rickey—these whisky and chocolate pairings are a perfect way to end the work day. -PJ Gach At the end of the day you need to unwind. What better way than to have a little chocolate and some whisky to make the world re-align itself! The Rickey at the Dream Midtown has chocolate stashed behind their bar all this month. And they’ve paired it with specific whiskys that were hand selected by Drew Sweeney, Beverage Director of TAO Group.
How could you wrong with any of these pairings! Try:
Hershey Chocolate Bar & Crown Royal Vanilla Whisky "Crown Royal Vanilla’s creamy vanilla flavor with a smooth, light whisky finish makes this classic chocolate bar taste super rich."
Milky Way & Bulleit Bourbon "Bulleit Bourbon offers maple, light toffee and spice flavors like nutmeg to the creamy nougat of Milky Way."
Reese's Peanut Butter Cups & George Dickel Rye Whisky "Dickel Rye with its caramel, vanilla, and warm baking spice notes is even better than milk after a bite of a chocolate Peanut Butter Cups."
Nikka Coffey Grain with a couple of slivered almonds in it. Really opens the whiskey up! And you could pair it with a chocolate covered almonds
Mellow Corn Whiskey is a 90% corn whiskey with notes of corn, vanilla toffee is a fun combination with a candy corn. It’s also just a fun combination!
Ragtime Rye Whisky, is a local New York straight Rye whiskey. Rich, peppery, very balanced that that would be a great compliment to a cool and refreshing York Peppermint Patty.
Sheep Dip Islay Scotch Whisky. It's a blend of basically every distillery on the island, its smoky salty flavors would go great with the salty sweet crunch of peanut M&M’s

After visiting you'll agree that life is too short to not enjoy all of Eataly's eats.
-Steven P. Magstadt
Eataly Downtown is ready to open to the public on August 11th, and for those permitted to visit ahead of the day, it presents a welcome and unique addition to Manhattan’s already rich offerings for the discerning foodie.
The location is themed around bread as a food that is core to communities around the world. This location of Eataly will be the first outside of Italy that to offer Pane Mediterraneo (Mediterranean Bread) which comes from the 35-year-old mother yeast that was brought to New York City in 2010 for its flagship store in the Flatiron District.
The backbone of many American skinny diets is the giving up of all things bread. Many Americans have no problem with this because good bread is something they have only rarely experienced. Eataly is a great place to become addicted to bread.
By all means, skimp your way through life without white sugar, butter, cream, and anything sweet if your waistline or sartorial sense demand, but do not deny yourself good bread. The nutty crackle of a perfectly baked crust giving way to soft, savory crumb while the loaf is still warm is one of the most comforting and satisfying pleasures in a life of eating. It is not trendy, but it is one of the few things that almost every culture around the world can agree is good.
The new Eataly is located on the third level of Tower 4 at the World Trade Center at 101 Liberty Street. It is flooded with light and laid out around the tower’s multi-storied atrium so that visitors can move through the space in a circle guaranteeing that they do not have to search corners for anything; they have only to continue through as market (offering and edible, drinkable library of roughly 10,000 wonderful products) gives way seamlessly to take-away food counters, sit-down restaurants, and bars specializing in juices, espresso, mozzarella, and other special food stuffs that turn every day meals into memorable experiences.
The lack of soft surfaces or ceiling isolation makes the space simultaneously a delicate microphone and a powerful amplifier for every sound from the shifting of a tray to the wine-bolstered chat of people four tables away. American diners and shoppers will find the space to be loud, but it is a happy cacophony. It reminds me of dining experiences with friends in Europe where stories and laughter were swapped as we shared plates together. This is not a place to whisper love in candle light, but it is very much a place to enjoy life with a great sip and bite.
During my visit I wandered with a glass of 2011 Barolo (my absolute favorite type of red wine) and sampled flatbreads topped with fresh mozzarella, basil, and properly sun-ripened tomatoes, cheeses, salami, tuna crudo, roast beef and truffle oil crostini, a mouthwatering pork concoction on a potato roll with a bit of shockingly crisp skin tucked inside, and oysters that demanded a moment of silence to savor the beautiful taste of the sea at its most fresh.
A highlight was Pasticcini (lovely, decadent bite-sized Italian pastries) offered by Pastry Chef Katia Delagu which could convert even me, someone who takes savory over sweet on a daily basis into a lover of pastry.
A staff member’s face lit as he told my friend and I about the training process that involved tasting his way through a menu that included a pasta named for the volcano that took out Pompeii. The impression I got was that Pompeii probably wouldn’t have minded disappearing if the actual Vesuvius’ final kiss had been as satisfying as it’s pasta namesake; I was momentarily jealous of the staff member even as I grinned because I love food enough to enjoy someone else’s eyes going wide over remembered bite.
I will have to go back to sort out which bites I enjoyed came from which chef and area of the store, but I am not sorry about this, and I look forward to again visiting Eataly Downtown to experience everything from the elegant simplicity of an oyster to epic pasta. Go see for yourself, and remember: Life is meant to be savored, so eat the bread.

Sushi Seki’s Bar Seki offers handcrafted cocktails and it’s a delicious hit. -PJ Gach New Yorkers take their food and drink very seriously. When Sushi Seki announced that they would be opening their third resto in the Theatre District, there was much rejoicing in the city. Sushi Seki is a bi-level restaurant that has a bar within—Bar Seki. The cocktails are Bar Seki may just be more of a draw than the incredible food that Sushi Seki serves up. From the moment Sushi Seki opened its first resto on the Upper East Side, quickly became a dining destination due to the high quality eats. Chef Sekiwhose fans include Gordon Ramsay, Eric Ripert, Jean-Georges Vongerichten andDaniel Boulud (nice crowd!) creates sushi with a witty, unique twist that marries traditional sushi sensibilities with the daring of contemporary cuisine. The chef de cuisine is Edward Wijaya , he described the cuisine to the pre-opening diners as "Japanese ingredients, fancy techniques, and New American style." For example their Bloody Mary is created with gazpacho vodka, clamato, yuzo kosho and amazo vinegar and the Gyu-Tan is comprised of beef tongue, ginger, garlic, purslane and fennel.
Read The Harvest Martini & More Vodka Cocktails to Try Now! To eat or drink here is real dining experience. Imagine sipping their Sakura cocktail (Janmai sake, unmeshu, peach, champagne vinegar and Sakura brine (smells heavenly)from a square wooden vessel. Cocktail consultant and globally award winning mixologist Shingo Gokan has let his imagination and taste buds roam, creating gorgeous tasting and beautiful to gaze upon cocktails.
As mentioned before, this Sushi Seki outpost has two levels. On the first, there’s a long blond bar that faces a wall of sake—not a bad view. Walking towards the back, a giant communal table takes center stage in the dining area that seats 80. No matter where you sit, you can watch the chefs work in the open kitchen. Each item on the menu, either food like the above sushi and octopus salad, or the Yuzu cocktail with shochu mizu no mai, shisho yuzu honey, and yukari salt, or the Umi cocktail (more of a shooter) made with mescal, dashi tomato water, oyster and uni is flavorful work of art.

Manhattanville Coffee is an uptown coffee shop that's perfect for sipping the perfect cup of coffee and more. -PJ Gach
Photo courtesy of Manhattanville Coffee Manhattanville Coffee is a blessing for people who freelance or work at home. Like many people who work from home, being in one spot all day can make you crazy. If you need to take a break, but keep on working, Manhattanville Coffee’s a haven to visit for awhile.
Inside has exposed brick walls and high ceilings. You can sit at the communal table, plug in your laptop and you’re good to go. If you need to relax, sprawl out on one of the leather-clad loveseats and watch people walk on by.
It’s only been open for about seven or eight weeks, but Manhattanville Coffee’s quickly become a neighborhood staple. On Sundays, people drop in after church. During the week, you might overhear a meeting between a real estate broker and a client, entrepreneurs talking over marketing strategies, watch couples courting or families taking a breather from walking in the heat. If you’ve got a dog, tie her or him up to one of the outside benches. There’s always a couple of bowls of water out for the neighborhood and coffee shop visitors’ dogs. Run in and get a dog treat to give to your pooch whilst you’re waiting on line for a custom-made latte.
They serve Intelligentsia coffee—iced, hot, mocha, latte, espresso, cappuccino, macchiato, and Americano. Coffee starts at$2.25 and goes up. But, wait, there’s more! You can have hot chocolate, chai latte, iced chai latte, iced mocha and tea! Iced tea, hot tea! Fruit tea! Their Bagels ($2) are bigger than my head, loaded with flavor and chewy…in a good way. A big hit is the Cauliflower Tart ($7)—made with asiago cheese and spices. I wouldn’t say no, and haven’t to their Zucchini and Walnut Muffin($3). It’s moist and flavorful.
The staff is friendly, helpful and they greet their regulars like family. Once you drop in, Manhattanville Coffee Shop becomes your daily oasis. You'll find yourself getting a lot of work done while munching on a gourmet pastry. The soothing atmosphere makes tackling deadlines a breeze. Want to catch up with friends? Have lunch here and you'll be able to hear them. Read a book, watch youtube, hang out and listen to their music.
