Riddled with grief and regret, Cassie Sinclair (Courtney Hope) is a brilliant physics student who discovers how to turn back time. Through time travel, she fulfills her mother’s (Susan Blakely) dying wish. She takes her mom to the beach one last time before she dies of cancer.
Although Cassie successfully rights her wrongs, it comes at a hefty price. Her discovery causes a rupture in the time space continuum. This ultimately causes instability for all those around her. The world’s timeline is now out of whack.
Displacement starts with Cassie waking up in an ice bath fully dressed. In shock, she discovers that her boyfriend Brian (Christopher Backus) has been murdered. Suffering from short-term memory loss, she desperately tries to piece together the obscure clues that someone leaves behind for her.
Not only does Cassie’s time travel breakthrough violate the rules of physics, but her work has fallen into the wrong hands. Throughout the movie, she travels back and forth in time with the hope to untangle the anomaly caused by the quantum entanglement event. Essentially, she has to recall the scientific equation she created to restore order in the world. Cassie’s friends, her professor (Bruce Davison) and family intervene but she isn’t sure who she can trust.

Despite explaining how Cassie broke “the rules” that caused a rupture in the time space continuum, the quantum physics theory was way too complicated. If you aren’t into physics many concepts will go over your head. I also never fully understood negation point.
Overall Displacement is overly ambitious and tackles too many themes and goes on too many tangents. Displacement lacks focus. It left me feeling lost throughout the movie. I also had a ton of unanswered questions. How does Brian get killed? What triggers the shifts in time? Although some scenes are eerie, in the end, this mystery did not captivate me.
The movie is out now on Video on Demand.
