Early August brings a slew of Bob Fosse movies and special guests to Quad Cinema.
Via Quad Cinemas
Bob Fosse left an indelible mark in theatre and in movies as an actor, director and choreographer. Whether it was performing in front of the camera in "Kiss Me Kate," or directing Liza Minelli (twice!) in "Caberet," and "Liza With a Z," or choreographing musicals like "Pajama Game," "Chicago," and "Pippin," Fosse shaped the world of dance. He won 8 TONY award for choreography, one for direction, was nominated for four Academy Awards, and won for directing "Cabaret."
Among the movies he directed include the frothy "Sweet Charity," gritty "Lenny," "Star 80," and the semi-autobiographical "All That Jazz." Quad Cinema is holding a Fosse retrospective entitled, "Performance Anxiety: Fosse at the Movies" from August 3th through the 9th.
Kicking off the retrospective on August 4th is the aforementioned "Sweet Charity." The 1pm showing will be introduced by Kevin Winkler, author of "Big Deal: Fosse and Dance in the American Musical." The movie will be re-shown on August 8th at 9:10 pm. At that showing, the movie will be introduced by Lloyd Culbreath, Verdon Fosse Legacy reconstructor.
Nicole Fosse, Bob Fosse and Gwen Verdon's daughter will introduce Cabaret on Monday, Augusts 6th at 5 pm and Liza With a Z on August 7th at 7:25 pm.
Other films to be shown include "The Little Prince," "Damn Yankees," "My Sister Eileen," "Star 80" and more.
Quad Cinema is located at 34 West 13th Street, New York, New York. For more information about the retrospective, tickets and more, please visit their site.
