The tropics comes to Brooklyn: Sugarcane Raw Bar & Grill.
Recently Sugarcane Raw Bar & Grill opened their third US location in DUMBO. The Miami-based restaurant group has Chef Timon Balloo creating an incredible global menu for this waterfront Brooklyn resto.
On opening night, music by the Hudson Horn and DJs Mia Moretti and Chelsea Leyland kept the groove going on and on.
The interior, designed by CentraRuddy, has a decidedly tropic feel…walk in and you feel like you’ve escaped cold New York City for warm Havana. Caramel colored leather seats, soft sand colored tile help to give you that warm, beachy (luxury beachy mind you) vide. Top it all off with an incredible view of the Manhattan Bridge.
Walking in, one is offered white or red wine, or a very tropical mojito. Decisions! Decisions! An easy way to gauge the cuisine was to sample light bites that will adorn Sugarcane’s menu. Tempting morsels included sushi, roasted corn, bacon wrapped dates, roasted Brussels sprouts done up with a balsamic glaze and more.
With a name that includes “Raw Bar & Grill,” there was a strong emphasis on fresh seafood that practically dripped briny breezes. While the raw bar is amaze, there are two other types of kitchens. Yes, Sugarcane Raw Bar & Grill has the aforementioned raw bar, but it also boasts an open fire grill and a traditional hot kitchen.
Need something to warm you on a cold winter’s day? Try the Australian grilled lamb chops served with pomegranate an za’atar yogurt $2), or A5 kobe wagyu* pickled honshemeji & truffle ponzu $28/oz. (3oz. minimum), or beef short ribs Korean style $20. To view the entire menu, click here
Feeling decadent? They serve incredible lunch specials, like Le Classic double burger* two beef patties, American cheese, thousand island sauce, potato bun16, or the poke bowl tuna, wakame, cucumber, Japanese pickle, ginger garlic for $18 and fabulous brunches on the weekend.
Sugarcane Raw Bar & Grill will more than likely become not only a DUMBO staple, but a place all New Yorkers will want to visit.
