Looking over Michelle Obama's fashionable first four years in the White House.
-PJ Gach
Michelle Obama AKA FLOTUS, is perhaps the only First Lady who has worn Target and Tom Ford.
Her fashion picks are modern classics that have revitalized the American fashion industry. Yes, she's worn Alexander McQueen, Nina Ricci and Lanvin. However, she lives in Tracy Reese, J.Crew, Jason Wu, Isabel Toledo, Naeem Khan, Michael Kors...the list of American and American based designers that she has in her closet can go on and on. Like many women she's also fond of J. Crew, White House Black Market and other clothing companies that make well tailored items for incredibly busy women.
Michelle has also brought back pearl necklaces, big brooches (often in the shape of flowers) and statement necklaces, wide belts and cardis. You could say that it's a sartorial tie between Michelle and Kate Middleton on who brought back "Lady-like fashion."
Over the past four years, she's worn many, many stunning outfits. Here's my 10 favorite looks.
January 2009 Inauguration
I adore the combination of sunny yellow and olive green. For the inauguration, Michelle wore a yellow embroidered sheath dress and matching coat by Isabel Toledo, cardigan by Nina Ricci, J. Crew gloves and Jimmy Choo flats. Yes, Jimmy Choo does make flats.
Inauguration Ball
Look at them slow dance! Le sigh. For the big night, Michelle chose a white chiffon gown with embroidery and appliqued flowers by Jason Wu.
G8 Summit
Arriving in Italy with her husband...you know the President of the United States, Barack Obama, Michelle wore another Jason Wu dress.
Getting down and dirty
Lucky 5th grade students from Bancroft Elementary School in Washington, D.C. came to the White House to work on the vegetable garden. In a wrap shawl sweater, leggings (yes, I wrote leggings) and short boots, Michelle plays in the dirt with the kids.

Cardi Power!
We know that Michelle loves her cardis. She broke up a black and white outfit with green belted cardi. This was taken at an event at the White House.
State Dinner
For the State Dinner for Mexican President Felipe Calderson and his wife in 2010, Michelle wore a one shoulder gown by Peter Soronon and jeweled Jimmy Choo sandals.
Working Out
How many FLOTUS's have you seen in workout gear? Here's Michelle at a youth soccer clinic in D.C. promoting her Let's Move initiative.
First Visit to England
Michelle Obama chose a cross-neck halter neck gown by Tom Ford for her first dinner with Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip.
Democratic National Convention
Michelle chose a shimmery princess cut dress from Tracy Reese for the Democratic Convention.
The Second Presidential Debate
A tailored hot pink suit by Michael Kors lends the right bit of cool to a very hot evening....The second presidential debate held in Hempstead, Long Island.
