Glitter, pearls, gold and rhinestones rock the nails at the Betsey Johnson spring fashion show.
Betsey Johnson's never been one to hold back when it comes to glittery, shiny things. Of course for her spring 2015 fashion show, everything--from head to toe--has got to be gleaming! Danielle Candido, lead manicurist for Morgan Taylor, created a multidimensional blue and silver-hued, crystal- embellished bridal manicure that just wowed everyone!
Here's how to do it at home. First layer Morgan Taylor in Oh Snap It's Silver!, an iridescent silver hue, topped with a coat of sheer cream In The Nude to magnify the silver sparkle underneath. Another layer of Oh Snap It's Silver! was then applied before a layer of Morgan Taylor in Bronzed & Beautiful, a gold metallic shimmer, was lightly sponged on. On top of the four layers of color, Candido then applied loose foil and pearlescent embellishments to complete the fresh take on bridal nails. As an added surprise, vibrant baby blue Varsity Jacket Blues was applied to the underside of the nail tips, adding a faint tint seen from the top and a pop from the belly of the nail.

Son Jung Wan’s spring 2015 fashion show was as blazingly hot as her star studded audience.
A color palette that ranged from the cool shade of sand to jungle emerald green and wild berry, Son Jung Wan’s spring line was inspired by the duality of nature. The sun’s brilliance is soothing and eye-catching, like the sequins and beads that adorned her designs.
Oohing and aahing over Wan’s clothing were celebrities like Kelly Rutherford (a long time fan of the designer), Devious Maids’ Edy Ganem, Kelly Bensimon, Toni Trucks of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn-- Part 2, and Nico Tortorella of TV’s The Following.

Didier Malige created effortless hairstyles that complimented Reem Acra’s gowns.
Reem Acra’s inspiration for her spring fashion show was a look back to the designs of the past. “I was thinking about my woman, I was thinking about the couture houses in the early ‘30s through the mid-‘50s.” Stated Reem in a press release, “ I thought about this woman who was living at this time, who used to dress in all these fabulous dresses. If she was living today, what would she want to wear and I translated that time period into this world, and made this collection very sculptural, very couture…but light and airy with a modern twist. Lots of cut-outs, very fresh and transparent.”
The hairstyles, of course, must match and compliment the gowns. Didier Malige of Art Partner designed hairstyles that are reminiscent of that era (think Veronica Lake or Jean Harlow), yet modern and fresh. “For the hair we are enhancing the natural texture, going for lightness,” said Didier in a press release. “We are draping the hair like Reem’s designs show draping the fabric for a beautiful silhouette.”
“To get the natural texture we want, it’s very important to start with clean hair. If a model arrives with too much product in her hair from another show, we shampoo it backstage and gently blot it to remove excess moisture.
Whether we shampoo the hair first or start with clean, dry hair, the next step is to make a low side part, not too precise. Then we saturate the hair from roots to ends with René Furterer Volumea volumizing conditioning spray---no rinse, gently massaging product into the hair. It’s so light that we can use a lot without weighing hair down.
Parted hair is pushed on the right side of the part to sweep across the forehead on a diagonal line above the brow, and clipped into place with crease-less hair clips from Japan to prevent any dents while hair is setting.
To bring out the natural texture, we blow-dry hair using a YS Park diffuser, aiming the nozzle downward to keep the hair down. Diffusing the hair helps to keep the hair in place, eliminates frizz—we want texture, but not frizz—and gives more control. If the model’s natural texture is too curly or too wavy for the finished look, we’ll break it down with our hands.
While hair is still slightly damp, we pump some René Furterer Volumea volumizing foam – no rinse into the palm of the hand, then dip a comb into the foam, and comb it over the clipped hair in front. It’s like frosting a cake! The foam helps to keep the direction of the hair above the brow intact. Hair is also clipped with crease-less clips in back, in a row or two below the crown, to help keep the lengths from separating. The models are then sent to makeup while hair “sets.”
Before the models are dressed, we remove all clips and gently break up the hair with our hands. Next, we spray hair in back with René Furterer Naturia dry shampoo and brush it out to enhance the texture. Depending on the model’s natural texture, the back may be straighter if hair is finer, or more textured. If needed, we might use a curling iron to finesse the ends a bit. We tuck hair behind the ears and loosen one piece to fall in front of the ear to give hair a fresher, more effortless effect. Last, we give hair in the fringe area a light misting of René Furterer Vegetal Finishing Spray for extra hold and to leave a beautiful satiny sheen.

San Francisco’s Academy of Art University’s students shine at MBFW.
Imagine being able to create without the constraints of the real world. The luxury of not having to alter your designs to suit store buyers, a head designer, or a finance team. Select students from the Academy of Art University get the chance to literally place their heart on their own sown sleeve twice a year at Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week. These 12 students who showed their thesis collection were: Mia Jianxia Ji, Wei Bai, Madison Detro, Asiyat Tsalikova, Max Lu, Liz Li,Jihyun Kim, Jingci Wang, Yin Yang, Yaqiong Zhu, Die Zhou, and Szu Chi Huang.

Sleek, sexy, modern describes Huang’s collection. Which is interesting (and slightly ironic) in that she was inspired by Japanese samurai armor and utilized origami folding techniques on her leather pieces.

Thakoon's bold prints are balanced by prismatic nails at his spring 2015 MBFW fashion show.
Gina Edwards, lead manicurist at the Thakoon spring show, created a sexy, glistening manicure for the event. The eye-catching look was made with three Morgan Taylor nail polishes.
First, Edwards applied one coat of Sugar Fix, a sheer pink shimmery shade, then two coats of Make It Last. To keep the look glossy, Edwards then applied the Need for Speed topcoat. For the matching pedicure, Edwards used Morgan Taylor's In the Nude, a pinky beige polish to complement the manicures.

Retro 60s looks and beachy hair: Casual chic at Derek Lam's spring show.
For Spring 2015, Derek Lam's palette was like a twilight sky in the Southwest. Pale lilacs, earth tones, blues, blacks and neutrals. The hair was soft, beachy, and casual chic, created by celebrity hairstylist Orlando Pita. It's the perfect style to wear now. It's still hot, so go ahead, and be ahead of the pack. Below are the step-by-step directions.
1. Prep by spraying hair from roots to ends with Phyto Phytovolume Axtif and blowdry with T3 Featherweight Luxe 2I Dryer using a T3 Paddele Brush to allow air to circulate through the hair, giving it more texture and volume.
2. Ends are kept straight using the T3 SinglePlass 1” Straightening & Styling iron.
3. Use Phyto Professional Workable Holding Spray on the crown, and then set the crown section with a head wrap to achieve a more flattened, gritty look. Head wraps will remain on the models until the last possible minute to give a contrast between the mid-lengths and ends of the hair, and a more modern, textured look at the crown.
4. Ends and front pieces of the hair are given a hint of bend from the T3 Whirl trio Interchangeable Styling Wand using the 1.5” straight barrel. Front pieces and ends are then finished with a mixture of Phyto Professional Matte Texturizing Paste and PHYTO Phytolisse Ultra-Glossing Serum to give hair definition with the lightest touch of shine.

Adriana Lima, Christian LaCroix and starlets! All at Desigual’s fashion show.
Super model Adriana Lima kicked off the spring Desigual show to a packed crowd that included Olivia Palermo, Poppy Delevingne, OITNB’s Laura Gomez, Miss USA 2012 Nana Meriwether, French model Camille Rowe and Breaking Bad’s. RJ Mitte.
Desigual’s spring visualized by Christian Lacroix is a riot of glorious color, patterns and flowers. Inspiration for the spring line was a mix of Mediterranean coolness, English garden flowers, Sout American motifs and geometry.
A gorgeous mix as you can see by the photos! Not only is the collection wearable, unlike some things you see at Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week, you can actually afford these clothes.
